So… Mother Nature has been playing quite the joke on us lately. A few days of unseasonably warm weather, topping it all off today with temperatures near 60, have us thinking spring will be here soon. Today! February 21st!
Since moving here recently, I’ve been meaning to start a personal project of exploring and photographing the beautiful St. Croix River Valley. What a great way to learn about my new neighborhood! I took the warmth as a “get yourself in gear” nudge, and, so it begins.
The dike and riverfront in downtown Hudson was the focus of my excursion today. The ice has mostly melted on the river. Small chunks still pose as resting places for local fowl. The geese played on the shore like they were at a resort. Eagles soared above, looking for a fresh lunch. The sand gave way under your step, just like in summer! It was heavenly!
Tonight, as I write this post, the local weather folks are lamenting the track of our next weather system… One that they estimate could give us up to 1-1/2 feet of snow. Really? Oh, well…we do live in Wisconsin. And it still is February…
